body remembers smth, 2023 – 2025
There’s always something in life that feels unwashable — a trace that lingers. It could be a memory tied to a scent, a life experience bound to an object, a complexion of feelings and thoughts, or a moment that stays etched in the mind long after the situation has passed.
What’s fascinating is how this applies equally to joyful memories and traumatic ones. In my series, I explore this idea through layers of meaning, including maps and dates that extend beyond personal life, reaching into the realm of collective, national, or territorial memory — a tattoo-like object. They represent the broader, shared experiences that shape us as communities. To convey the more ambiguous or unresolved emotions, I introduced elements like cloudy patches — shadows of feelings that remain unspoken or unclear, yet undeniably present.
Ultimately, this work is a reflection of our shared humanity. Each of us carries a unique personal history, but we’re also bound together by the collective stories and memories that define our world. We are all humans, we all have our histories, collective and private.
